Ever considered certifying with IBM for DB2 9? Getting certified has some obvious benefits, not to forget the certification mark you can flaunt at the end of your email signature.

IBM certification exams for DB2 are considered to be more difficult when compared with other vendor's certification exams. Thus, they carry more value with them.

The ultimate in DB2 9 DBA certification is the exam 734 - DB2 9 Advanced Database Administrator for Linux, UNIX and Windows. You will have to appear in at least two more exams to qualify for this one.  Having appeared in this exam myself, I can say that to clear this exam you would require a very good understanding of db2 core concepts.  Even a seasoned dba expert will need to pick up the book and brush the concepts before taking the exam.

If you are certifying for DB2 9 or are already certified then there are some statistics to feel happy about. Check out this article (DB2 9 certification: Everything you need to know) at the IBM developerworks website. Look for the comparison table between certified DB2 DBAs, Oracle DBAs and Microsoft SQL Server DBAs and pay special attention to the "Average Salary" column.

It feels good to be a db2 dba :-)
